Wagner Feather Ceremony

Wagner Community School held their Feather Ceremony on May 13th. The Feather Ceremony is a symbol of hope that the students will soar toward a brighter tomorrow and rewarding future: for themselves, their community, and their tribe. Wambdi- Eagle, is held in high respects by the Dakota/Lakota/ Nakota people. It is said that we use him to carry messages to our creator because he flies so high. The eagle is held in high admirations and to earn a feather is a high honor. The tying of the feathers by a family member of a graduate is a key part to the ceremony. The feather ceremony is a tradition passed down through the years. The tradition has withstood time and all the hardships that Native American people have endured. Jerome Kills Small, an Oglala Lakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation was the master of ceremony for the evening. The Native American students participating in this honor were: Amaya Aungie, Kiwon Baker, Jaylissa Castillo, Alcista Dion, Nikolas Drapeau, Kotey Flying Hawk, Allen Fobb, Dustin Honomichl, Ohitika Johnson, Xander Khadka, Brennan Leines, Jesslynn Lovell-Weston, Daelyn Red Buffalo, Brandon Selwyn, Gordon Shields II, Shai Smejkal, Tawi Star Comes Out, Saxon Ulrich, Azaliyah Williamson, Calvin Wright Jr., Edwin Young, Mirabel Zephier, Tobias Zephier and Zoey Zephier.
