The Wagner Fire Department hosted State Fire Fighter 1 and 2 training and certification at the Wagner Fire House. They started January 3 and finished last Saturday. The main instructor was Ron Maeschen from Parkston FD.
Read moreWithin the last few years, the Avon Music Department has started a Big and Little Dance for any preschool thru 5th grade students and their parent(s), guardian(s), or special loved one(s). This year's dance was March 28 from 7-9 p.m. The fun-filled night includes a Grand March and a dance with refreshments. The Cahoy family donated their DJ services, and the high school chorus provided the snacks and drinks. The Big and Little Dance shirt-tails the Prom using the decorations from two nights prior and giving attendees a night of glamor.

Read moreClass of 2023 has gained their fifth new classmate of the 2021-2022 school year. Reilly Collier, age 17, recently moved from Brandon, SD to Dante, SD. He is now attending Avon High School as a junior. Originally from North Carolina, Collier is a son to Ed and Angie Collier and has three siblings: Emily, Brenda, and Todd. He also has two dogs: Hank and Josie.

Read moreSociology class participated in an activity to better understand social stratification and the social classes. The students were divided into three classes: the upper class, the middle class, and the poverty class. Each group was given an egg and an amount of money to buy protection for their egg. Their buying power symbolized the different opportunities and what different social classes can afford for their children.
