Like a car racing along the interstate, exiting onto a highway, and finally reaching the family farm along a dusty gravel road, our blood circulates inside our bodies. There are the major blood vessels, such as the aorta running out of the heart, and there are the tiny capillaries allowing blood cells one at a time to carry oxygen and nutrients to all the cells in our bodies. The network of capillaries is so complex it is estimated there are over 40 billion in one person, and if stretched out in a single line they would cover over 100,000 miles.

ROBERT THALER NAMED 2023 SDSU CAFES TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Brookings, S.D. - Every year, a committee of students in the South Dakota State University College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) is tasked with selecting an outstanding teacher they feel has gone above and beyond in their role as an educator. Students and clubs within the college have the opportunity to nominate a CAFES teacher to receive the title of CAFES Teacher of the Year. This year’s recipient is Dr. Robert Thaler, Distinguished Professor and interim head of the Department of Animal Science. This will be Thaler’s third time being recognized as Teacher of the Year, as he was given the honor in 2000 and again in 2006.

BON HOMME COUNTY 4-H OVERNIGHT LOCK-IN

Last Friday night, Bon Homme County 4-H members and their friends were wide awake at the second annual 4-H lock-in. The lock-in was hosted by the Bon Homme County 4-H leaders and volunteers overnight on Friday, March 20 at the county 4-H grounds.

2023 PIRATE AWARDS PROGRAM

The 2023 Pirate Awards Program was held Thursday, May 4. Master of Ceremonies was Tom Culver, Opening Prayer was given by Pastor Aaron Rush following by the Concert Choir sining 'Ballin' the Jack' and the meal catered by Dale Buchholz Catering. Following the meal, Kenny Powers gave the Lion's Club Welcome, Pastor Aaron Rush gave the Chamber of Commerce Welcome and Lindsey Fathke gave the Introduction of the Class of 2023. Keynote speaker for the evening was John Thayer. Following the speaker, awards were presented to students and staff.
