Start now to plan a parade entry! “Christmas” is the theme this year for parade entries. Customer appreciation can be handled by each individual business and as they choose. The annual lighting of the Christmas Tree at the corner of 3rd Ave and Main Street is a highlight of the night. Drawings for hams and turkeys will also take place after the tree lighting. If you have a group that would like to organize a food sale or a craft fair that would be wonderful. Let’s make this the best Christmas Parade and Customer Appreciation Day to date!

Theresa Helen Rezac, 89, of Gering, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Her Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, October 31 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff. A private family inurnment was held at Fairview Cemetery.

The Avon Oral Interp team competed at the Yankton Lewis & Clark Oral Interp Invite October 28th. The following students received awards: Kate Swier and Ashley Tolsma - 1st place Duet, Erica Cahoy and Jake Namminga - 2nd place Duet, Ella Hamilton and Abby Gretschmann - 4th place Duet, Readers Theater (Lexi Vanderlei, Abby Gretschmann, Jake Namminga, Hope Kemnitz, and Ella Hamilton) - 1st place, Ashley Tolsma - 1st place Humorous, Charli Simpson - 4th place Humorous, Kate Swier - 1st place Storytelling, Lexi Vanderlei - 2nd place Non-original Oratory, and Erica Cahoy - 4th place Poetry.
