FULL SAILS AND FIRST DOWNS

The Avon Pirates have had an outstanding start to the first half of the season. They have worked hard this season by going to practices after school and during the summer. They remain undefeated this season, with a record of 5-0. The Pirates are currently ranked second in the 9B class. Last week, we defeated the Colome Cowboys 67-0. This Friday, we will be taking on TDA/AC/DC for our homecoming game. Next week, we will play against Menno. We have three more regular games before starting the 1st round playoffs on October 23rd.

Al’Shamon James Gunter was born on December 20, 2007. His family members are his mom, Jamie, and his two brothers: the oldest, Aziah, and the youngest, Alvin. Al’s favorite subject in school is lunch because it makes his day—he loves food. His most challenging task as a senior is completing his core classes.

NEW ORAL INTERP COACH ON THE SHIP

This year, Avon High School welcomes Mrs. Irwin as the new Oral Interp coach. Though new to the coaching role, Mrs. Irwin is no stranger to oral interp. In fact, she first discovered her passion for Oral Interp as a high school student. “I participated in Oral Interp in high school, loved it, and made memories,” she said. Those experiences stuck with her, inspiring her to take on the opportunity to guide students in the same activity. Coaching Oral Interp atAvonwasanatural fit for Mrs. Irwin because she already teaches in the school. She also had a strong influence from her English teacher, Mrs. Hento, to do Oral Interp. While the performance aspect is a big part of Oral Interp, Mrs. Irwin hopes her students walk away with more than just polished pieces.“Confidence while speaking” is one of the main skills she wants her team to gain.
