MILITARY GALA HELD: MERKWAN CROWNED QUEEN

The Military Gala was held Saturday, January 5 at the Wagner Armory thanks to the hard work of SGT Jessica Nielsen and Whitney Podzimek. Our appreciation to the area businesses that donated items and gave of their time to help the unit raise money for the unit morale fund.

TAXES BY POSTCARD

If you haven’t heard, the postcard is real. Kind of. In June, the Treasury Department and IRS unveiled the new 2018 individual income tax return. The new form is an offshoot of last year’s tax overhaul. Though famed a “postcard,” the new return is anything but simple.

THUNDER SUFFERS LOSS FROM BURKE

The ACDC Thunder traveled to Burke January 3 and suffered the loss 52-58. Leading the scoring attack was Daaron Tronvold with 15 points, Cliff Johnson had 13 points and Parker VanderPol added 12 points. Cliff Johnson had 11 rebounds and Pearce VanderPol had 8 rebounds. Daaron Tronvold had 5 assists.

Happy New Year from the Lake Andes Carnegie Public Library! The staff is hoping to see our friends from years past and would love to meet new people to our community. If you have not been in the library recently come visit and see what is new.

WRESTLING

FLOYD FARRAND INVITATIONAL On Saturday December 22, the Red Raider Wrestling team traveled to Sioux Falls to take part in the Floyd Farrand Invitational. The Raiders finished in 7th place out of 18 teams with 111.0 points and Watertown winning the tournament with 208.5 points.

Week in ROTARY NEWS

President Jerry Weber presided over the regular Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019 noontime meeting of the Wagner Rotary Club. Guest Bill Heermann offered a prayer. Kathe Henke led the singing of the Rotary song, “Auld Lang Syne.” Guests were Bill and Sue Heerman.

CHAMBER HOLDS RIBBON CUTTING

The Wagner Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting Wednesday, January 2 to congratulate Jamie Soukup on the improvements he has made to So-Co Pioneer as he purchased the previous Fred Haar building and remodeled it, inside and out. Stop and check it out.

EITEMILLER INDUCTED INTO HONOR SOCIETY

Sadie Eitemiller was one of 19 Wartburg College students inducted in too the Alpha Chi honor society this fall. Alpha Chi is a national honor society recognizing students who rank in the top ten percent of the junior and senior classes.
