How soon will we have a vaccine to protect us from coronavirus? That’s the question uppermost on the minds of many Americans, especially the elderly and others especially at risk for a severe bout of the disease. Everyone wants the vaccine yesterday.

The Charles Mix County office for USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) is currently open to phone and virtual appointments only but can still work with producers on timely filing crop acreage reports.

AT&T plans to close 250 of their retail stores, cutting 3,400 jobs, many in South Dakota including our Wagner location. This happens just after two other mobile giants consolidate, with T-Mobile purchasing Sprint. Wagner's retail store is set to close Tuesday, June 30.

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) operates a fleet of vehicles around the country to provide free transportation to VA medical facilities for injured and ill veterans. For local veterans, the van is driven by volunteers and coordinated through the Charles Mix County Veterans Service Office.

The Charles Mix County 4-H program received a $200.00 CFEL Gardening Mini Grant. The funding was used to start a perennial bed at the Lake Andes Community Garden site. Some of the items planted were raspberries (red, yellow and purple), winter onions, strawberries, chives, asparagus, sage and thyme.

The South Dakota State Library is pleased to announce 19 recipients of the first round of Library Technology grants funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the federal CARES Act.

Greer Post #11 American Legion Auxiliary met June 18, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. with nine members present. The meeting was called to order by President Juanita Stone. The opening prayer was read by Chaplain Margie Stone. All members recited the flag pledge and Auxiliary preamble.
