American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on July 21st, 2022 at the Post Home with 26 members in attendance. Commander Rados introduced John Crisman, who presented a very interesting story about his relative, Tony Skorpik. Skorpik was a WWII veteran who served in the Army Air Corps.

The July 20th Rotary meeting began with a delicious steak meal prepared by Super Foods. Rotarian Scott McAdaragh did an excellent job with the steaks. There were no guests present as we normally do not have a program for steak day.

The Wagner Waves swim team competed in Platte for the James Valley Swimming League championship meet on Thursday and Friday, July 14th and 15th. Trophies were given for placings first through fourth in each age group, but the team placed several kids.

Feeding South Dakota food distribution will be held Friday, July 22 at the Scotland Community Church at 8:45 a.m.; the Tyndall Fire Hall at 10:30 a.m. and at the Avon Fire Hall at 12 noon. This will continue to be a “drive-thru” distribution.

The Avon Swim Team wrapped up their season at the Championship Swim Meet held in Platte on July 14th and 15th. Avon had 51 swimmers participate in the two day meet. For the second year in a row, the team scored the most points overall, awarding them Team Champions.

The Annual Open Class “Flower Show” will be held during the Bon Homme County 4-H Achievement Days. The flower exhibits should be entered on Friday, August 5th, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the 4-H Grounds. The two show divisions for the cut flowers are 1. Single bud/flower and 2.

The Chamber BBQ will feature 2 pork loin sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, ice cream and lemonade. The Chamber BBQ will be held on Friday, August 5th, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the Tyndall Park across from the 4-H Grounds.
