Fort Randall Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce that our very own Darrell Pepper of Geddes was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award at the Dakota Credit Union Association’s Annual Summit held in May.
The Wagner American Legion Auxiliary Greer Unit #11 is honoring Michael Kirwan as June’s Veteran of the Month. Michael Kirwan was drafted by the Army on January 19th 1951; he was 18 years old. He was the only man drafted from the area that he knew of when he left for his draft physical.
What an amazing adventure we have been on! 55 kids and around 25 adults today in our little library. Loretta Knodel led the troops with the reading of the book “Let’s go on a Hike”. Kids were able to make their own binoculars or origami bookmark.
This month’s Avon Chamber of Commerce Business Spotlight is on the Community Bank of Avon. The Community Bank of Avon first began operating in 1914 under the name of Bank of Kingsburg. The bank was chartered by Thomas C. Pier in Kingsburg. Pier got his start in banking working in banking in Ravinia.

Julie Boyle and Hannah Reeves competed at the high school research poster competition at the Sanford Science Festival.
Brenda Jaton (Wagner City Council member) and Mayor, Tammy Thorton, attended the 2024 South Dakota State University (SDSU) Energize Conference held May 22nd and 23rd in Hot Springs. This was the first time that anyone from Wagner had attended the event.
The Fort Randall Casino organized a Bigfoot Conference this past June 7th and 8th. The goal of this conference was to spread awareness, educate people on the purpose of this type of conference, to find definitive proof and to help write a law to protect the Bigfoot species.
