JUNIORS EXPERIENCE TEST OVERLOAD

AHS juniors are especially excited for the approaching end of the year, and for their “year of tests'' to be over. In October, the class took the ASVAB, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. According to their website, this is “a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. It is administered annually to more than one million military applicants, high school, and post-secondary students.”

MUSICIANS PERFORM IN AREA BAND FESTIVAL

On March 21, band director Mataya Larsgaard took selected students from the 7th through 12th band to the Area Band Festival at the Scotland High School. Throughout the day they performed a variety of jazz, lyrical, and march music with a variety of schools such as Viborg-Hurley, Parkston, Menno, Bon Homme, Alcester-Hudson, Armour, Irene-Wakonda, and Scotland.

JUNIORS READ THE GREAT GATSBY, WATCH MOVIE

The Great Gatsby, an American classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, was recently read by the junior English class. After weeks spent reading the book, answering the questions, and taking the test, the class watched the 2013 movie version starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby. Jessica Streit said, “The book was dry, but I didn't really like the movie either because of who played the main characters.”

PROM….IT DOESN'T HAPPEN OVERNIGHT!

As spring rolls around, so does Prom…and a lot of responsibilities for the junior class. The theme of this year's 2022 Prom is Unlock the Enchanted Night. It is March 26 with the junior and senior class banquet at 6:00 p.m., Grand March at 7:30 p.m., and the dance from 8:30-11:30 p.m.
