Avon had two wrestlers out of seven from the Bon Homme/ Avon wrestling team that competedinthestatewrestling tournament this 2023-2024 season, Tyler Tjeerdsma and Randall Powers. Tjeerdsma ended his senior season placing 6th at the state wrestling tournament.WhilePowersdid not place at the state wrestling tournament,hegarneredsome very good experience that will help him in future wrestling seasons.

Randall is relatively new to the wrestling scene and has only been wrestling for two years. Powersdecidedtostart wrestling after being encouraged by wrestling parents and other wrestlers. During Randall’s wrestling career, he has had a lot of help and inspiration from Travis Tjeerdsma, the father of one of his teammates,Travis,andBradBierema, Powers’ football coach.
Read moreThe Avon archery team recently attended the 2024 State Nation Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Tournament held in Spearfish at Black Hills State University on Friday, March 22nd. It was a one-day tournament where everyone from the Avon team qualified to compete at the state level. The competition is top level with schools from all over South Dakota coming to compete for awards,titlesandhopingtomake it to the nationals competition.
