AVON SWIM TEAM 5 YEAR LEAGUE CHAMPS

The Avon Swim Team wrapped up their season at the James River Valley League Championship Meet on July 16-17 in Platte. This year Avon had 64 swimmers (ages 4-18) compete, which is an all-time high for the team. For the 5th year in a row, the team earned first place in team points! Every swimmer helped to earn points for this team award and many swimmers has personal best times at the two-day meet! After nearly twenty years of parish ministry, I entered the world of health care, which, I learned, abounds in acronyms. My first clue was in chaplaincy training, known as “CPE” (Clinical Pastoral Education), the required education for most hospital and hospice chaplains. CNA, SoB (Shortness of Breath), PRN, HoH (Hard of Hearing), and a myriad of other acronyms are now part of my own vernacular. QoL (Quality of Life) is the ‘big’ one in hospice, sometimes called “comfort care.” When quantity of life becomes diminished, it’s all about quality.

Pierre, S.D.—The South Dakota Discovery Center (SDDC) is excited to announce a new exhibit now open to exhibit hall visitors in Pierre. 'Lunar Life: Destination Mars' is an immersive experience that demonstrates how humans will live on the moon as we prepare for a move towards Mars. It was developed by a group of students and faculty at South Dakota State University (SDSU) to engage young children with space exploration, the exhibit was made possible by the NASA South Dakota Space Consortium initiative. The grand opening event, in celebration of the Apollo 11 moon landing, for 'Lunar Life' is this Sunday, July 20, 2025, 10am-5pm. Join the fun, grab a NASA swag bag, and experience life on the moon!
