Did You Know that a Library can save you money? The Siouxland Libraries of Sioux Falls conducted a Library Card Promotion showing library patrons just how much they can save by borrowing materials for free from the library as opposed to purchasing the same materials. Using the same way to compute savings the Lake Andes Library is saving patrons approximately $4.50 for each book borrowed and a considerable amount for the borrowing of DVDs or magazine subscriptions.

MARY JO PARKER AWARDED CERTIFICATION

PIERRE, S.D. – The State Library has awarded certification to 12 librarians from nine libraries across South Dakota. The voluntary certification program recognizes library directors and staff members who have met the certification standards. The program's goals are to help library directors and staff acquire, sustain, and develop skills through continuing education in order to provide better services to their communities. Through this pro gram, the State Library acknowledges public library directors and staff who update their knowledge and skills on a continuing basis. AC-DC THUNDER CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS HEADING TO STATE

Three runners from the Andes Central/Dakota Christian Cross Country Team qualified for the State Meet this Saturday at the Heart Ranch Golf Course by Rapid City. The runners in the top twenty at the Region 3B Meet held at the Lake Platte Golf Course on October 14 were Isabella Brouwer in 14th (20:21), Lexi Schoenfelder in 20th (22:39), and Peter Backes 19th in the Boys Race (20:00). For Isabella, now a 10th grader, this is her 4th time making it to the state tournament. Both Lexi, just a 7th grader, and Peter in 9th grade will be running in the State Meet for their first time.

SIOUX NATION AG CENTER WELCOMES NEW VETERINARIAN

Sioux Nation Ag Center in Wagner welcomes Dr. Greg Mantz as the new full-time veterinarian for the Wagner area. Dr. Mantz will be working out of the Wagner store, and will be available for routine work on the farm. He will also respond to after-hours large animal emergencies.

CHARLES MIX ELECTRIC GROUNDBREAKING HELD

The original headquarters for Charles Mix Electric was built in 1953 and has been added onto several times. The new facilities, at a cost of $4.8 million, will include an 18,000 sq. ft precast concrete warehouse with a wash bay, truck and equipment storage and a 1,600 sq. ft. mezzanine. The new 9,600 sq. ft. office area will provide office space, conference rooms, ADA-compliant restrooms and a "Community Room" which will be available for rent to the general public. A dedicated space for the linemen and their equipment, something that does not exist in the current building, is also a very important part of the new space.
