Taxes Last Saturday was a special night in Avon. The local Volunteer Fire Department had their yearly supper and entertainment. Iwasremindedonceagain how fortunate we are to have manyvolunteerswhoarewilling toprotectourcommunity.When wepayourtaxesasmallamount goes to the fire department. We all pay the same Mill levy which is very fair. There is at least one exception, the Wind Farm north of Avon. Most people don't know theydonotpaytaxeslikeyouand I.Policymakershavegiventhem veryspecialtreatment.Lastyear it was in the Clarion, Prevailing Winds gave a small amount to the fire department. Using the building permit number times Mill levy they should be paying our fire department thirty eight thousand per year to be fair to the taxpayers in the district. They get the same treatment but contribute very little if any. This is a perfect example of the rich get richer at the expense of others.

The Avon 8U baseball team under the guidance of coaches Nathan Schultz, Dwight Brandt, Kenny Podzimek and Colt Wolf recently played in the state tournament, bringing home a State Championship title. This particular group of 8U boys had been playing together for the past two years. They were a very young team last year, but it gave the boys time to learn how to play together and become a team. Coach Schultz knewthatgoingintothisseason that the team was going to be somethingspecial,andhecould not have been more correct. In addition to winning a state championship title, the team also ended the year with a 11-2 recordintheLMVCLeagueand an overall astonishing season record of 21-2.

Burial is in the Trinity Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Avon, with military honors. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m., withasharingofmemoriesat 6:30. Peters Funeral Chapel in Avon is in charge of arrangements.
