Read moreThe Lady Raiders traveled to Hanson last Tuesday night in girls basketball action. Wagner would jump out to an early 4-3 lead but find themselves trailing 12-7 after 1 and then 20-13 at half. Wagner’s offense would come to life later in the second half but it was to little to late as they would fall 40-44. Wagner would shoot 14-42 from the field for 33% while the Beavers would go 16-38 for 42%. Wagner would commit 24 costly turnovers compared to 19 from Hanson. Wagner would control the glass 30-21 but would only get 5 offensive boards. Wagner was 5-8 from the line while Hanson was 6-16. Lydia Yost led Wagner with 12 points off the bench. Emma Yost and Eve Zephier would each chip in 8. Yost would grab 12 boards and have 3 steals. Zephier would also have 3 steals and dish out 2 assists. Shalayne Nagel and Ashlyn would each add 5 points. Nagel would grab 5 boards, dish out 3 assists and have 2 blocked shots. Koupal would have 4 boards, dish out a team high 4 assists and have 3 blocks. Macy Koupal would round out the scoring with 2 points, 7 boards, and 2 steals. “This is why we play the games. On paper you could say we are the better team but it all boils down to execution. Defensively we did a decent job on them only allowing 44 points. We let them shoot some open perimeter shots that they made. Offensively we didn’t play good basketball. We missed some transition looks early that could have helped us get going, We turned it over in the half court with some uncharacteristic plays. We didn’t pass the ball very well. We didn’t hit open shots early in the game, however we are very pleased with how the girls responded after being down 15. We kept on fighting and playing hard. We cut the lead all the way to 3 but just ran out of time. The other great thing is there is time to learn from this. This was not a do or die game, but just a game and a lot of things can be learned. “
