By Jim Kocer, assistant coach The Bon Homme/Scotland/ Avon girls wrestling team hosted their last event of the regular season at a quadrangular on February 10 in Tyndall. They defeated Miller/ Highmore-Harold 54-12, and Viborg-Hurley 54-12, before losing to second-rated Canton 70-12.
The Avon Lady Pirates hosted Tripp/Delmont/Armour on Thursday, February 12 and came away with a solid 43-33 victory. Avon built momentum throughout the night and relied on balanced scoring and defensive pressure to secure the 10-point win. Jordyn Voigt led the Pirates with 13 points.
The Avon Lady Pirates competed at the GPC Conference on Saturday, February 14, where they faced Irene/Wakonda and came up short in a hard-fought contest, 42-47. Rilyn Thury led the Pirates with 20 points, along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Avon Pirates capped off a successful night on Thursday, February 12, completing the sweep over Tripp/Delmont/ Armour with a 62-46 victory. The win improves the Pirates’ season record to 6-11. Avon had balanced scoring and strong work on the boards to secure the 16-point win.
The Bon Homme/Avon wrestlers competed at the State Dual Tournament Saturday in Pierre, where they wrestled hard throughout the day and earned runner-up honors following a tough championship match against Canton. The final score in the title dual was 37-26 in favor of Canton.
The AC/DC Thunder used a strong start and balanced scoring effort to earn a 54-27 victory over the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders on February 9 at Dakota Christian School.
AC/DC set the tone early, building a 16-6 lead after the first quarter.
