On Monday, June 6, Wagner’s two teener teams played host to Tyndall and would come away splitting the two games. Preston McFayden was the starting pitcher for Wagner as he tossed five innings. He would give up three runs, one of which was earned, on three hits and six walks while striking out two.

For nearly 100 years, the Burlington train route meandered through the Black Hills. The train transported people, freight, mail, and livestock from town to town throughout the area.

Avon’s 18U softball team kicked off its season hosting Tyndall on Wednesday, June 1. In game 1 Tyndall jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Avon was able to tie the game in the bottom of the 5th but Tyndall sealed it with runs in the 6th.

A year and a half ago, the 605 Unity Team created a special event for the Wagner area to help bring our community closer together and to focus more on cooperation and caring about each other. The event was created to use what we all like as the way to take the first step.

On Thursday, May 26, Wagner took 15 athletes to compete in the state track and field meet in Sioux Falls. Two relay teams would compete on this day. First up was the boys 4x800 team made up of Glen Cournoyer, Henry Hayward, Lael Young, and Riley Roberts.

Last Tuesday through Friday Wagner’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams hosted their annual basketball camp. There were 116 3rd -12th grade boys and girls that attended. A huge thank you goes out to the Yankton Sioux Tribe for paying the entry fee of all participants who signed up to attend.

On Wednesday, June 1, the Wagner VFW Post 7319 14U and 16U teeners took to Hennies Field to open their season against Canova. The opening act belonged to the 14U team and they would get the season started right, claiming a 5-3 victory. Javian Pesicka would take to the mound first for Wagner.
