Eight corn yield entries top 270 bushels per acre

Despite one of the most-challenging growing seasons ever, eight contestants in a contest sponsored by the South Dakota Corn Growers Association raised corn that yielded more than 270 bushels an acre.

This year’s theme, “There’s No Time Like Fair Time,” proved to be true. With 85 percent of surveyed fairgoers rating their satisfaction of the fair as excellent or good, the fair shined in many areas.

The South Dakota Transportation Commission awarded 35 Preliminary Engineering Local Bridge Improvement Grants totaling $1.42 million at their meeting in Pierre. The remaining $13.

State railroad board takes action on possible sale of railroad lines

The South Dakota State Railroad Board acted on proposals received by the South Dakota Department of Transportation on Nov. 21, 2019, for possible acquisition of state-owned railroad assets. Nine operating proposals from seven proposers were received during the invitation for proposal.

Highway 46 Bridge Replacement West of Beresford To Begin

CENTERVILLE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says reconstruction of the Highway 46 bridge west of Beresford will begin on Jan. 6, 2020. Contractors will be reconstructing the bridge as part of the larger shoulder widening project from the Highway 19/19A junction to Beresford.

Just Thought I'd Ask

When we look back over last year our minds bring us to remember huge fires on the West Coast, many homes burned to the ground, trees burned. And then mud slides from heavy rains. and in the mid-West there were terrible storms, high winds, tornadoes with much damage.

As 2019 comes to a close, I’ve had time to reflect on the past year. As a state, we celebrated the commissioning of the USS South Dakota, a Virginia-class nuclear submarine designed to fulfill 21st century mission requirements.
