LOCAL SINGER AND SONGWRITER, KARA HANAN

Kara Hanan has always liked to sing. As soon as she could talk, she was singing. In elementary school, Kara found that she enjoyed writing poems. At around age 16, she taught herself how to play the guitar.

STATE 4-H HORSE SHOW

Congratulations to Paisley and Lydia who competed in South Dakota's State 4-H Horse Show last week in Huron! Both girls did extremely well representing Charles Mix County.

LEINES AWARDED BUILD DAKOTA SCHOLARSHIP

Brennan Leines, son of Tracy and Lucy Leines and grandson of Rose and Scott Salmen and Jim Leines was awarded a Build Dakota Scholarship in April. Brennan will be attending Mitchell Technical Institute this fall where he will study heating and cooling.

HOW THE PACT ACT WORKS FOR CURRENT VA BENEFICIARIES

The Department of Veterans Affairs screened more than 4 million U.S. military veterans in the first year of the new PACT Act to find out if they thought they'd been exposed to toxins during their military service. The vast majority of those screened were already enrolled in VA health care.

VETERANS COMPENSATION

Many veterans are entitled to compensation from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for service-connected injuries or disabilities. Compensation can be awarded to a veteran who incurs or aggravates a disability while on active military service.

DANGEL COMPETES AT 4-H NATIONAL SHOOTING SPORTS COMPETITION

Luke Dangel attended the 4-H National Shooting Sports competition on June 23rd through June 28th in Grand Island, NE at the Heartland Public Shooting Park. Luke is the son of Mike and Tina Dangel and is a junior at Andes Central. Luke first joined 4-H when he was five years old as a Cloverbud.

INNOVATIVE LEADER OF THE YEAR

Clint Nelson, Elementary School Principal from Andes Central School District, was honored as the Innovative Leader of the Year.
