Kara Hanan has always liked to sing. As soon as she could talk, she was singing. In elementary school, Kara found that she enjoyed writing poems. At around age 16, she taught herself how to play the guitar. It was at the age of 16 when all of her the aforementioned passions and several of her talents collided and she wrote her first song for a very special event, her sister’s wedding. Singer and songwriter, Kara, had found her passion.

Kara did not write but a handful of songs after the one for her sister’s wedding until about two years ago. Two years ago, something clicked within Kara and she started busying herself with working on her song writing. Her favorite topic to write songs about is Jesus and she enjoys writing worship type of music. She writes about things that are on her heart, which makes her songs full of emotion. She has only written songs for her own use, never for someone else to sing as of yet.

Until recently, most of Kara’s songs have been acoustic. Lately, she has been purchasing different beats in order to create a basic outline of the sound of the song to write the lyrics to. The sound of her music has also recently changed to more of a pop sounding vibe. Inspiration for her lyrics comes from everywhere and anywhere. It can be during daily tasks such as cleaning and out of nowhere a melody and or lyrics will just come to her. She always stops what she is doing and writes it down. A lot of times she gets inspired during prayer. Kara enjoys going to church alone with her guitar and just letting inspiration wash over her.

Kara enjoys performing and prefers it when it is just her and her guitar up on stage or in front of a crowd. Unless it is as church or a worship event, then she enjoys singing with her friends and the community which is her favorite because she loves harmonies.

Kara goes to a recording studio in Sioux Falls, where a sound engineer masters all of her music tracks. She is currently working on a project out of Sioux Falls. The project will bring together different local artists who are writing worship music that will be put together and then distributed to local churches. Kara will be one of the artists featured in the collaboration.

Growing up in Kara’s immediate family, she was the only person that truly had a passion for singing. Since getting married and having children, Kara is no longer the only person in her immediate family that has found their musical passion. Kara has been able to pass down her love of music and singing to her children. Her son, Connor, who is 8 loves to sing. Connor sings all the time and has a gift for it. Her daughter, Kenna and youngest son, Kellen, also enjoy music. Kenna enjoys any kind of music with a good beat and loves to sing with her mom. Her husband, Mick, is very supportive of her musical gifts and her using those gifts to spread joy to others. When not singing or spending time with her family, Kara enjoys being outdoors in nature.

Kara is truly passionate about singing and would one day like to be able to work on her music full-time, but until then you can either see Kara at Town and Country Beauty Salon where she is a stylist or at one of her upcoming performances. Kara will be singing at the Wagner Lake Park on August 8th at the Wagner Chamber of Commerce Customer Appreciation night and the Platte Creek Brewing Company in Geddes on August 24th.
