South Dakota Strong

Nature has a way of humbling us, of stepping into our lives with previously unthought power and reminding us what truly matters. That's how I felt these past two days while surveying storm damage across much of South Dakota. But the power of the storm was not the only thing that I found humbling.

STATE AGENCIES PROVIDE STORM ASSISTANCE

PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Kristi Noem has ordered South Dakota’s National Guard and the Department of Public Safety’s Wildland Fire Division and Highway Patrol to provide assistance to those eastern South Dakota communities impacted by Thursday’s severe storms.

VFW TO HOLD BUDDY POPPY DAY

Friday, May 20, VFW Post 7319 and Auxiliary will once again be holding their Buddy Poppy Days. Volunteers will be asking for donations for this worthwhile cause.

LOEWE APPLIES FOR DAR SCHOLARSHIP

Reece Loewe is currently a senior at Avon High School with plans to attend South Dakota State University in the upcoming fall. In January, Loewe applied for the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Scholarship. The opportunity was offered to her by Ms.

1ST GRADERS STUDY LIFE CYCLE OF CHICKENS

On April 1, the first graders and Mrs. Kuhlman started incubating their chicks, no “fooling!” Mrs. Benita Kuhlamn said, “We put them in on April Fools day and 28 chicks hatched on Earth Day!” They received their eggs from Michael and Amanda Ratzlaff.
