Reece Loewe is currently a senior at Avon High School with plans to attend South Dakota State University in the upcoming fall. In January, Loewe applied for the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Scholarship. The opportunity was offered to her by Ms. Saddi Wynia, the school guidance counselor. Essentially, the scholarship requires applicants to type a timed essay. The topic of the essay is unknown to the applicant until it is time to apply. Loewe had two hours to complete the essay and it needed to be a minimum of 500 words.

While Loewe did not receive the scholarship, she was still appreciative of the experience and said, “It was a great opportunity. I didn’t know a lot about it, but I knew I wanted to represent my community.”
