Funeral services for Viola Moysis, 86, of Avon were Saturday, July 28 at the First Presbyterian Church in Avon. Burial was in the Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Avon. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Chapel in Avon was in charge of arrangements. Viola Moysis was born at home to Fred and Amanda (Ritter) Bertus on October 31, 1931. She was baptized at the Trinity Presbyterian Church. Viola passed away at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls on July 25, 2018, at the age of 86. Viola graduated from Avon High School in 1949. She married Charles Moysis on February 22, 1955. They lived on the farm until moving into Avon in 1970. Viola worked at Weidenbach's grocery store, the Wagner Good Samaritan Center and as janitor of the Trinity Presbyterian Church and American Legion Hall. She worked at Avon Enterprises until her retirement. Viola moved to the Avon Manor in 2006. She moved to the Lennox Good Samaritan Center in 2014 where she could be close to her daughter Ruth. Viola was an active member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church teaching Sunday School, Bible School, Bible Bunch, making bulletins and playing piano for services. She also held offices in Ladies Aid. She held offices in and was an American Legion Auxiliary member since 1960. Viola will be remembered for her enjoyment of attending track meets, basketball and football games. She proudly received the Avon fan of the year award. Thankful for having shared her life are her daughter Charleen (Casey) Lalley, of San Diego, CA, daughter Ruth (Craig) Odens of Sioux Falls; granddaughter Sarah Odens of Sioux Falls; brother Donald (Arlene) Bertus of Avon; and many other relatives and friends. Viola was preceded in death by her husband Charles and her parents.
