Funeral services for Sterling Dion, 54, of Wagner were Saturday, June 27 at the White Swan Community Center in Lake Andes. Burial was in St. Phillip’s Episcopal Cemetery, Lake Andes. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Sterling Louis Dion was born January 6, 1966 in Wagner at the IHS to Darrel Dion Sr. and Vivian E. Dion-Mnicopa. Sterling made his journey into the Spirit World on June 24, 2020 at Wagner Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner.

Sterling grew up in the country in Lake Andes with a lot of his cousins and a grandmother (mom) Philomene. He also attended Andes Central in Lake Andes for his schooling.

Sterling played sports such as baseball where he earned the Hustler’s Award in the 70’s and played darts for over 20 plus years. He and his teammates achieved a couple of state titles.

Sterling was a huge Pittsburg Steelers fan. He enjoyed working as a blackjack dealer when the Fort Randall Casino first opened in Pickstown. He became a poker dealer after a couple of years.

Sterling met Nichola Aungie and were together ten years. He adopted Sterlene Dion, his daughter. They lived the last few years in Wagner, there he made his little family whom he loved with Nichola Aungie.

He is survived by a brother, Darrel Dion Jr. of Lake Andes; sister Darcy Dion of Lake Andes, sister Tracey Dion of Sioux Falls; his significant other Nichola Aungie and daughter Sterlene Dion, both of Wagner; and many nieces and nephews.

Sterling was preceded in death by his parents, Darrel Dion Sr. and Vivian E. Dion-Mnicopa; grandmother (mom) Philomene and Daniel Dion; brother Charles “Chuck” Dion; and grandparents Melissa and Charles Mnicopa.
