Lois M. (Peterson) Stedronsky, Lincoln, NE, formerly Lake Andes, passed away Monday June 22, 2020. Lois M. Peterson was born near Viborg on January 27, 1932, the daughter of Melvin E. and Agnes M. (Nielsen) Peterson. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Viborg High School. Lois and Russell Amundson were married at Luverne, MN January 28, 1950. After the marriage, they lived on a farm near Wakonda. To this union, a daughter, Cheryl Kaye was born February 2, 1951. Lois moved to Lake Andes in 1952 where she was employed until moving back to Viborg to work at the K & K Store as a cashier and later the bookkeeper.

Lois and Russell Stedronsky were married at Viborg on May 19, 1953. They lived at Hopkinsville, KY while Russ served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Upon Russell’s discharge, they returned to Lake Andes where they owned and operated Stedronsky Funeral Home from 1963 to 1986, and the Stedronsky Furniture Store from 1963 to 1979. Lois and Russell provided families in the Lake Andes area with an unequaled level of care and compassion during their time as owners of Stedronsky Funeral Home. Lois composed the funeral service for those individuals who passed and had no family or friends to select the scripture readings, prayers, and hymns for their service.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lake Andes, Eve Circle and WELCA, holding various offices on the church council and ladies organizations, in addition to teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. Lois served on the Lake Andes Housing Board and Andes Central School Board and was an officer of the American Legion Auxiliary. She instilled in her family a strong work ethic and the values of honesty and integrity. Lois loved to sew, knit, crochet, bowl, golf, tole, rosemale and oil paint. She also enjoyed baking and cake decorating for special occasions within the community, as well as baking monster chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her grandchildren who were the light of her life.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Kirwan of LaVista, NE, son Bruce Stedronsky and his wife Jane of Lincoln, NE, son-in-law Terry Matuska, Omaha, NE, six grandchildren Krystal Kirwan and husband Vaughn Cotton, Omaha, NE, Benjamin Stedronsky and wife Kristina, Fort Worth, TX, Wyatt Kirwan and wife Joni, Imperial, NE, Danica Matuska, Riverdale, UT, Matthew Stedronsky and wife Victoria, Oklahoma City, OK and Katarina Matuska, Omaha, NE, and two great grandchildren, Jaxon and Kharissa Stedronsky, Fort Worth, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Melvin Peterson, husband Russell, daughter Lynn, brother Lyle Peterson and sister Carol Bak.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, July 13 at Southwood Lutheran Church, 4301 Wilderness Hills Blvd., Lincoln, NE, respectfully following social distancing and use of facial coverings. Committal/burial service at Lakeview Cemetery, Lake Andes, at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 14. Memorials in lieu of flowers to Parkinson’s Nebraska. Due to COVID 19 restrictions as well as social distancing guidelines, the family would like to invite you to join them virtually with live streaming as an optional way to attend the funeral service.
