Funeral services for Donald Gasper, 85, of Lake Andes were Thursday, August 13 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Andes. Burial was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lake Andes. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Donald H. Gasper was born November 14, 1934 at home in rural Wagner, the son of Joseph and Julia (Muselik) Gasper. He died Sunday, August 9, 2020 at the Lake Andes Senior Living Center in Lake Andes.

Donnie served in the US Army during the Korean War from December 3, 1953 to November 25, 1955.

Donnie was united in marriage to Catherine Chytka on December 15, 1956 at the United methodist Church in Wagner.

Donnie worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers for 31 years. He also worked for the City of Lake Andes, was an equipment operator for Charles Mix County, worked as a long haul semi truck driver, and drove the activity bus for Andes Central High School. He entered the LA Senior Living Center in July of 2018.

Donnie was a member of VFW Post 3239, American Legion, was a Lake Andes Fireman for 36 years, Lake Andes City Councilman, and worked as a policeman at Rest Haven and the drive inn theatre. He was also an active member and judge of the Charles Mix County Saddle Club in his younger years.

Donnie will be remembered for his love of watching his grandson Hunter, farming, hunting, trading and selling anything and tractor pulling, which was his passion. Donnie was known as a master BSer!

Thankful for having shared his life are his two daughters, Denise (John) Brooks of Lake Andes and Renae Gasper of rural Ravinia; four granddaughters: Johna (Frank) Kern, Tootie (Chad) Loeffler, Katrina (Kevin) Talley, and Candace (Elliot) Milk; seven great grandchildren: Hunter and Ruger Loeffler, Markus, Nia and Cameron Talley, Isaiah and Dominic Milk; and two brothers-in-law: Ellsworth Chytka and Linsy Nelson and families of Lake Andes.

Donnie was preceded in death by his wife Catherine on August 7, 2009, son Todd on October 27, 2013, son-in-law Chico Peters, parents, grandparents and siblings Leona Mead and Vivian Carda.
