CARLA LEHRKAMP

Funeral services for Carla Lehrkamp, 27, of Scranton, IA were Monday, July 27 at the American Legion Hall in Wagner. Burial was in the Holy Fellowship Episcopal Cemetery, rural Greenwood. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Carla Rachel Lehrkamp was born September 10, 1992 in Sioux City, IA to Karen LeClaire and Bradford Lehrkamp. She died Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA. Carla is the youngest and has a twin brother Darren, older sister Rose, and two older brothers, Brad and Chris.

The first two years of her life she lived in Glendale, AZ and then the family moved back to Sioux Falls where many family members lived. She grew up with many cousins, aunties, uncles and grandparents around her. She attended a few different grade schools. She then moved to Fridley, MN with her mother, sister and brothers. Carla attended and graduated high school in Fridley. Her mom and brother moved back to South Dakota during her final year of high school but Carla was not afraid to be on her own and insisted that she remain in Minnesota to complete her last months of high school. She lived with a friend and later with her Aunt Candace.

After graduation she found a job in sales. Carla was carefree, loving and kind to all she knew. She developed many friendships there and they became her family.

Carla met Damon Zimpel in 2010 and they eventually married in 2015. Carla’s pride and joy, Alice, was born May 8, 2013. She always made sure Alice knew how special she was. Carla loved Minneapolis. It was home. She and Alice moved to Iowa in January 2019 to be near her mother, sister and niece. This is where she spent the remainder of her life.

Carla leaves to mourn, her daughter Alice, her mother Karen, her father Brad, her sister Rose, three brothers: Darren (her twin), Brad and Chris; her aunties, uncles and many cousins.

Carla was preceded in death by an older brother Bryan, grandmothers Geraldine and Delphine, uncles Scott, Dana and Lester.
