Saturday, December 14th The Wagner Bon Homme varsity lady Raiders are making improvements. These girls are gaining skills, precision, power, and confidence. These are the four main areas these ladies will need to continue to improve throughout the season to earn their way to state as a team and individually this year.

Coach Kocer has taken point when it comes to the girls’ wrestling team. This year’s team has two seniors Peyton Hellmann and Ashley Tolsma. Peyton is a four-time state champion with a 42-0 record last season and a career record of 146-9. Peyton is ranked number four nationally by USA Wrestling forHighSchoolgirls’wrestlers in the 135-pound weight class. Ashleybroughthome8thplace at last year’s state tournament and finished her season with a record of 18-20. Juniors on the BHSA’s girls wrestling team are Britney Rueb and Hope Kemnitz. Britney is a threetime state champion, one time state runner-up, finished last year’sseasonwitha28-2record andhasacurrentcareerrecord of 121-9. Britney is ranked number 28 by USA Wrestling in the National Rankings for High School girl wrestlers in her weight class of 130 pounds. Hope Kemnitz qualified for last season’s state tournament and ended the season with a 11-16 record. Hadlee Kracht and Jasmine Rueles-Hertz are sophomores on the team. Hadlee placed 8th at the state tournament last season and ended her season with a 31-17 record. Baily Kemnitz is a freshman team member. The team also has two seventh graders Sydney Johnson and Harper Kracht.

Read moreIn an exciting turnout of student-athletes wanting to wrestle this year for the Andes Central Thunder team which went from last year’s three wrestlers to this year’s eight team members is quite an improvement, so much so that the wrestlers are this year practicing on their own mats at Andes Central. Last year the team was so small that the Andes Central wrestlers would practice with the Wagner Raiders and Raider Head Coach David Kocer would help train them for meets. With more athletes comes a new head coach, Coach Chris Derry. This is Coach Derry’s first year as a wrestling coach in South Dakota.

The coaching staff for this year’s team are Head CoachShaneNiewenhuisalong with Assistant Coaches Ben Kroese and Allison Ekroth. This season the Thunder are returning five seniors Gabriella Olson, Josie Brouwer, Nadia Van Zuidem, Leah Brown and Mahpiya Irving. Juniors on the team are Halle Olson, Rory Kiyukan and Adaya Arrow. The final member of the Thunder is sophomore, Audrey Dehaan.

Nine seniors lead this year’s team and include Tate Elk Soldier, Hunter Loeffler, Sabas DeHaan, AJ Johnson, Garth Maas, Ty Archambeau, Ryder Niewenhuis, Ethan Aungie and Kashton Garcia. Junior team members are Kashton Garcia, Takota Medicine Horn and Isaiah Milk. Jamian Medicine Horn and Edward Ulrich are the team’s sophomore members. Up and coming freshmen team members include Jack Backes and Israel Brown.
