Read moreAvon's 18U kicked off their summer season Thursday, June 19 hosting Mt. Vernon Venom 18s in a doubleheader. In game 1 Mt. Vernon took an early 2-1 lead after one inning. Avon came right back and took the lead 4-2 through two frames. Venom 18s was able to tie the game in the top of the sixth but Rilyn Thury camethroughwithagame-winninghittogiveAvona5-4victory. Thury led the way with 2 hits and a RBI. Lydia Yost had a hit and a RBI. Jordyn Voigt and Rowan Brandt also had hits. Yost pitched for Avon, giving up 3 earned runs and striking out 5. Mt. Vernon Venom 18s 200002 4 Avon 130001 5 In game 2 it was Avon from the start, as they scored six runs in the top of the 1st. They would add 3 in the 2nd and another 6 in the 4th to win 15-3. Kaeli Wallinga led the hitting charge with 2 hits including a double, a walk, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Yost added a triple, while Abby Gretschmann and Kaydence Metzger each had a hit. Thury was on the mound for Avon, surrendering 0 ER and striking out 1. Avon 6306 15 Mt. Vernon Venom 18s 3000 3 Avon's 18U softball team hosted Menno on Thursday, June 26 in a doubleheader. In game one Avon took the lead in the bottom of the 1st off a Macy Voigt single that batted in Rilyn Thury. Avon would later break a 1-1 tie by scoring 5 in the 5th frame to eventually win 6-3. Voigt and Thury each had 2 hits in the game. Other hitters for Avon included Kaeli Wallinga, Emily Dewald, and Mackenzie Titze. Lydia Yost pitched for Avon, recording 7 strikeouts while giving up 1 earned run.
