To be named to the President’s List, students must be full-time (12 or more credits), seeking a degree and have a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. To receive Academic Honors, students must be enrolled part-time (6-12 credits), seeking a degree and have a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. Read moreThis week’s featured Andes Central Senior is Abigail Svatos. Abigail is the daughter of Ryan and Erica Svatos. She also has two sisters, Mikayla and Kourtney. During her high school years, Abigail has been involved in volleyball; basketball; wrestling; golf; Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA); FFA and National Honor Society. Walking tacos is Abigail’s favorite school lunch and her favorite teacher is Mr. DeNeui. Mr. DeNeui is her favorite teacher because he always puts a smile on his student’s faces and he is the kind of teacher that will do anything he can to help his students succeed. The advice that Abigail has for Andes Central underclassmen would be that it will get better. Abigail’s favorite memories are any activities or events that were with Mr. DeNeui. When her time at Andes Central comes to an end, Abigail will most miss the relationships that she has built throughout high school with the teachers and her fellow students. Abigail’s enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing and working during her free time.
Read moreAmerican Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on December 21, 2023 with 37 members in attendance. Commander Clayton Rados thanked the cooks for the delicious prime rib meal. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order Minutes – Adjutant Dave Isebrands read the minutes of our last meeting. Minutes were approved as read.

Something South Dakotans don’t always get to experience in our land of “infinite variety.” President Becky Brunsing welcomed all members to the meeting and Rotarian/ Pastor Bill Herrmann gave a prayer of gratitude for the weather and the preparations being made to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Read moreA very familiar face will soon be retiring from Commercial State Bank. Karen Kuhlman is set to retire Friday, December, 29th. After 40 years of service to Wagner and the surrounding communities, Karen will clock out for the final time. She has enjoyed working at the bank, interacting with the customers and being able to support her family.
Read moreWagner had four furry visitors in its community on Tuesday, December 19th. Four beautiful reindeer were available for pictures and viewing at Wagner’s First Dakota National Bank. First Dakota sponsored the community event from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the bank parking lot. Along with the reindeer, Santa, his sleigh and Buddy the elf were available for pictures. This has become an annual event with the exception of last year’s event being cancelled due to the weather and conditions not being safe for travel. 400 kids came to visit Santa and the reindeer. Wagner Community School brought their pre-kindergarten through fourth graders to visit and take pictures with Santa.
Read moreAt 15 years old, Brylie Link is a young talented baker. Brylie has been baking since she was eight years old. She started baking at a young age with her grandma, Jolene Link, and ever since has been using all the tricks and tips that her grandma has taught her over the years. Not only does Brylie like to bake tried and true family recipes, but she also likes to venture out and experiment with new recipes that she comes across online. When asked what her favorite item to bake was, she simply could not choose one. Brylie said, “That is a tough question as there are many things that I enjoy baking.” There really is not anything that Brylie does not like to bake. The most difficult items that Brylie has ever baked are macaroons and chocolate croissants. They were difficult, but practice makes perfect and if one knows Brylie when it comes to baking, she is a perfectionist who practices her craft constantly. She likes her baked goods to look as beautiful as they taste. One area of baking that Brylie would like to get more comfortable with would be making different types of pastries. “I usually see a video of it being made or a picture of anything that looks good and I find the recipe and make it,” is what inspires Brylie to try to bake new goodies or try new baking techniques. She watches a lot of how-to videos, especially when she is trying something new or challenging in addition to making the recipes. When asked why she enjoyed baking so much she said, “It was what me and my grandma always preferred to do in the kitchen whenever I would go to her house.” Brylie also enjoys it because of the yummy things that can be created and it does not hurt that she has a sweet tooth.
