American Education Week was November 15th-19th. Wagner Community School and the Wagner Education Association recognize individuals or organizations who contribute their time and effort to support our students, and staff and make our school a better place of learning. This year’s recipients of the “Friends of Education” Award goes to Dennis and Mary Merkwan. Thank you for your years of support on the school board and as a paraprofessional and all the little things you have done for the staff and students.

On Monday, November 15th, Wagner traveled to Chamberlain to compete in our Region 2A Meet at the Cedar Shore Resort. We competed against teams from Bon Homme, Chamberlain, and Winner. We took our 1st place winners from our district meet, held on November 1st, and competed in the following categories: Non-Original Oratory, Poetry, Storytelling, Humor, Serious, Duet, and Reader’s Theater.

Chaplain Margie Stone opened with a prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance and American Legion Auxiliary Preamble were recited in unison.

Read moreThe following area friends went on the WNAX bus trip to the November "Branson at Christmas." From Avon: Beth Namminga, Georgia Talsma, Gary Odens, Cleo Reiff and Reta Ridgway. From Springfield: Ethel Cooper, Cathy Coleman, Becky Fryda, Judy Ludens, Gary Romkema, John and Mary Hoaglin, Bill and Kristi Chenoweth and Bill and Kari Odens. From Tyndall: Alice Kozak and Gary and DeAnna Fritz. From Parkston: Richard and Elaine Jones. From Yankton: Alice and Lois Solberg. They enjoyed the many Christmas shows and sites around Branson. The absolute blessing for everyone was seeing 'Jesus" at the Sight and Sound Theater. It told the powerful story of the plan of salvation. They also enjoyed and were profound of their local "Star" Cleo Reiff, who was escorted to the stage and interviewed at the Comedy Jamboree Show. It was enjoyed by all.
Read moreThe New Year will be bringing back the Lake Andes Library Book Club. We stopped meeting when the COVID pandemic made it unsafe to meet. Plans right now are to start meeting in January 2022 to discuss the first selection. If you are interested, please contact the library for more information. The Book Club uses book club selections from Libraries across the state of South Dakota, so the only cost is for postage to return the books.

Andes Central FFA participated in the District IV Leadership Development Contest on November 15th at Mitchell Technical College. These students participated in Employment Skills, Prepared Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Creed Speaking, and Ag Broadcasting. District IV officer interviews were held for the 2021-22 officer team. A huge shout out to Riata Bultje who was selected as the District IV Secretary! She was one of 21 FFA members from 11 schools competing for 6 positions. Great job representing Andes Central School!
