Funeral services for Elizabeth Alberta DeJong, 94, of Springfield were held Thursday, April 2 at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Springfield. The service was live-streamed on the Emmanuel Reformed Church, Springfield, SD YouTube page. Burial was in the Emmanuel Cemetery, rural Springfield. Peters Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of arrangements. Elizabeth Alberta DeJong was born September 3, 1931 at home on the farm in rural Springfield, the daughter of Albert and Maria Elizabeth (Wandscheer) Ludens. She passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Alberta attended rural Logterman School and graduated from Springfield High School in 1949. She married Eldon DeJong in January of 1956. Together they farmed west of Springfield until moving into Springfield in 1987. She then started cooking at Senior Meals, cleaned homes, and cooked at Springfield Assisted Living. She assisted Eldon as janitors of the bank and the school. Alberta also worked at the Carl Lawrence Library Microfilm Unit for State of SD archives. She also volunteered at Mike Durfee State Prison in ministry with Living Stone Church. Alberta was a very active member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church, serving with the Willing Workers Circle and she played the organ for 71 years. Alberta will be remembered for sewing and embroidering, writing personal letters, her love of history, cooking and baking, her hospitality, sense of humor, gift of gab and for telling stories. She was a very giving person and was well known for making wedding flowers for many years. Thankful for having shared her life are her children and grandchildren: Ellen Logterman of Rockford, IL and her kids, Stephanie (Doug) Smith, Jeremy (Tosha) Logterman and Kellie (Nic) Adami, Marlin’s kids, Jennifer (Brooke) Parker and Cassandra DeJong, Myrna (John) Voigt of Avon and their kids, Sara (Kevin) Klaahsen, Terry (Erin) Voigt and Katie (Cody) Tschantre, Christine (Leland) Diers of Cedar Rapids, IA and their kids, Ashley Diers (Martin Boehme), and Alex (Brittany) Diers, and Cynthia Orduño of Phoenix, AZ and her daughter Mia Orduño; 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Alberta was preceded in death by her husband Eldon on December 30, 2009, son Marlin, parents, son-in-law Dave Logterman, great-grandson Luka Klaahsen, three brothers: John Albert Ludens, Marion Ludens and Carl Ludens; and sister, Marie Sloss.
