MATILDA P. MARTIN

Matilda P Martin, 82, of Wagner, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at Avera Queeen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, due to complications of pneumonia. She was born October 4, 1943 to Norman and Mary (Zephier) Selwyn.

She married Charles Martin, she had 4 children: Brian (Brenda) Martin of Springfield, Eugene Martin of Sioux Falls, Linda (Danny) Highland of Yankton, and Jaqueline Martin of Wagner. Her grandchildren are: Kristin Martin of Wagner, Kayleigh Martin of Yankton, Carissa Steinberg, Hanna Westbrook of Yankton, Dillon Anderson and Liam Sexton of Wagner. Her great grandchildren are: Xander and Karizma Bock of Idaho, Kenzleigh Martin of Wagner, Zaynn Martin of Wagner, Ollie Scrempp, Riot Scrempp, Houston Hauck, Haven Hauck, Reighn Steinberg, and Khoi Steinberg of Yankton.

Matilda graduated from Yankton High School in 1961. She joined the US Army Corps and served from June 28, 1963 to December 22, 1964 with the Military Police with the rank of SP4(T)E4.

She worked at various places such as CHR worker, Human Services Center, Alf ’s, Shurco, VFW and Truxedo.

Matilda is preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Mary Selwyn, brother Kenneth Selwyn, great grandchildren Zakaya Martin of Wagner and Madden Hauck of Yankton, and many other loved ones.

Visitation and a Celebration of Matilda's Life were held on March 31 at the American Legion Hall in Wagner. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
