DAVID MARTIN

David Richard Martin, age 73, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, October 4, at Madison Regional Health System. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 10 at the Ellsworth Funeral Home.
David was born on June 28, 1952, in Wagner, to Nyle and Florence (Deuschle) Martin. He proudly served his country as a member of the South Dakota National Guard for 38 years, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class.
On November 7, 1975, David was united in marriage to Twila in Madison. Together they built a loving family and shared nearly 50 years of life, laughter, and memories.
David was a man who loved to fish and cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his love of playing jokes and making people laugh. His family was his greatest joy, and he took pride in watching them grow and succeed.
He is survived by his wife, Twila Martin of Madison; children Tammy (Scott Halverson) of Ramona, Denise (Wayne) Holmes of Madison, Jeremy (Kristyn Matson) Martin of Ramona, Jamie (Steve) Rowe of Madison, and Jason (Jena) Martin of Madison; sisters Nyla Zastrow of Columbia, South Dakota, and Bonnie Soukup of Las Vegas, Nevada.
David was a proud grandfather to Jessica, Miranda, MacKenzie, Zach, Justin, Austin, Caitlin, Easton, Shaylynn, Jack, Ava, Izaak, Ella, Avery, Thomas, Theo, Cameron, Brady, and Lucas, and great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his faithful dog, “Pup.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nyle and Florence Martin; brother, Daryl Martin; and son-inlaw, Chad Mechels.
David will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to his country, and his playful spirit that brought laughter and warmth to those around him.
