It was a very touching and unique start to the game as various branches of military were represented for the National Anthem and Presentation of the Colors at Armour Friday evening as the TDA/AC/DC Thunderhawks hosted the Burke Cougars.

NOVAK FAMILY DONATES BABY SCALE TO WCMH-AVERA

The Wagner Community Memorial Hospital-Avera was a recipient of a memorial gift. The Don Novak family graciously presented the staff with a baby scale, which will be used to obtain an accurate weight and length. Accurate weights are needed when calculating medication doses to babies and toddlers.

In 1879, a 16-year-old boy told his parents he wanted to learn how to build machinery. He moved nine miles away from his parents’ farm to take an apprenticeship as a machinist at a shipbuilding firm in Detroit.

SDSU researchers increase expenditures by more than $4 million

South Dakota State University researchers were busy the past year, increasing the university’s research expenditures by more than $4 million. Expenditures increased from $63.5 million in fiscal year 2018 to $67.6 million this past year, a rise of 6.5%.

Last Saturday, four boys from Woonsocket were going to drive onto Highway 37 but were struck by an SUV. Three died. Only one survived. When tragedies like this happen, communities grieve and hold onto what is dear.

REMINDER TO REMOVE HAY BALES FROM THE RIGHT OF WAY

PIERRE, S.D. - The South Dakota Department of Transportation reminds land owners hay remaining in highway ditches after Oct. 1 is deemed illegal. After Oct. 1, the department will remove or authorize the removal of any illegal hay bales remaining in the public right of way.

2019: DISMISS EVENTS OR UTILIZE THE EXAMINATIONS?

It seems as though many producers I talk to can’t wait for 2019 to be over. With the cold, snow, rains, mud, roads damaged, delayed or no planting, continued mud, hay and small grain harvest delays, etc. it has been quite a struggle thus far.

A BUSY FALL SEASON IN THE SENATE

The Senate is back in session, which means we are traveling back to Washington for votes, committee hearings and meetings with constituents who visit the Capitol to advocate for their issues.
