Yes. South Dakota’s maximum legislative session length of 40 days is among the shortest in the United States. The state's constitution mandates that the legislative session start on the second Tuesday in January with a maximum of 40 working legislative days, though some sessions have fewer days.

2025 Year in Review

The year began with Avon students, athletes and community members earning recognition at the state and national level. The Avon Fire Department honored its members at its annual banquet, and South Dakota marked a historic transition as Larry Rhoden became the state’s 34th Governor.
