ZEPHIER NAMED SD 2019 YOUTH OF THE YEAR
Joi Zephier was named South Dakota’s 2019 Youth of the Year, which is the highest honor presented by Boys and Girls Clubs.
Joi, representing the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Missouri River Area in Wagner, was one of five finalists who were selected based on their academic record, community involvement and involvement in their local club. The finalists spent two days in Pierre being interviewed by judges and meeting dignitaries like the Governor and Legislators.
Zephier has been a club member since 2011 and has volunteered countless hours at the Boys & Girls Club. She is a student at Wagner High School and is a member of National Honor Society and JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates). She is a two-time National Competitor for the JAG Math Program, which took place in Washington D.C. She is very passionate about Academic Excellence, Cultural Unity and Youth mentoring.
She is the daughter of Nikki Zephier. After high school she plans to attend college and major in Neonatal Nursing.
Joi will now compete at the Midwest Regional competition in Chicago in July. The Regional Youth of the Year that is selected will then compete in Washington D.C. in September for the National Youth of the Year.
