Roger Schroeder and Ron Mazourek retired from the Wagner Volunteer Fire Department. Schroeder had 28 years of service and Mazourek had 35 years of service.
20 Years Ago – 2004
Harris and Sharon Haar celebrated 50 years in business at Haar Implement.
Cheryl Thaler was hired to fill a vacancy at WCS as a math teacher.
Long-time Wagner resident and businessman, Owen Wipf, passed away.
James Costello was honored in a celebration for his 40 years in law enforcement.
NAPA celebrated 30 years in business.
Kristi Soukup, Ashley Mathis, Laken Nedved and Janelle Kuhlman were all named to the All-Conference Girls Basketball team. Soukup, Mathis and Nedved were also named to the LMVC All-Conference team.
Kristi Donelan and Mateya Kuhlman were chosen to represent WCS as Girl’s State delegates. Alternates were Danyel Alderink and Bridget Fousek.
Mandy Koupal was named MVP for the North Central Conference for the third straight year.
30 Years Ago – 1994
Vincent and Elaine Bechen celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
Mary Ann Deurmier submitted the winning entry, “Holidays of the Year” for the coming Labor Day theme.
Tara Uecker and Dale Drews announced their engagement.
Grand Opening ceremonies were held at the new Ft. Randall Credit Union building in Pickstown.
45 Years Ago – 1979
Lynn Uecker and Theresa Kocer were selected as Girls State delegates. Patty Kokesh and Nan Crisman were chosen as alternates.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hollenbeck celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Members of HHD 137th Engr. Bn who were promoted at the March drill were William Hollmann to Sgt. Major; James Sellers to 1st Sgt. and James Tschumper to Sgt. First class.

Owen R. Wipf announced his candidacy for the office of States Attorney on the Republican ticket.
Virginia Podzimek was honored at a miscellaneous shower.
A group of friends called on Vivian Uecker for a housewarming party at her apartment and also to honor her on her birthday.
70 Years Ago – 1954
Twin girls were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Holec.
Pvt. Roy Thaler completed 16 weeks of training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
Ernest Johannsen and Ernest Nedved spent a weekend together in Korea. The young men were schoolmates and were now stationed 16 miles apart in Korea.
Clifford Hoffman opened a shoe store and repair shop in Geddes.
92 Years Ago – 1932
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Broz.
Charles Swett took over management of the Club Café and will operate it for the First State Holding Co. Helen Novotny will retain her position as cook and Christine Kocer, waitress.
Lawrence No. 1 had two new pupils, Vivian and Evelyn Crane. The Crane family moved to the place formerly occupied by Owen Crisman.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Blazek recently moved into the Ree township and was given a welcoming party.
Albert Fechner and Robert Knight were new pupils in the 5th grade in Wagner.
