10 Years Ago – 2014

Don Hubbard was presented with a 50 years of continuous Masonic membership pin. Stephanie Nedved and Adam Carlson announced their engagement. Margaret Doom and Hannah Fleming, the “two man wrecking team” placed third at the championship quiz bowl competition in Mitchell. The 2nd annual Great Tables event was a great success raising $700 to put towards community projects.

20 Years Ago – 2004

A card shower was held in honor of Frieda Walters’s 90th Birthday. Sean Coleman and Matthew Koupal of Wagner were named to the Dean’s List at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Wagner gymnasts placed 3rd at the Fort Pierre Gymnastics Invitational.

30 Years Ago – 1994

Jack Soulek was named chairman of the Charles-Mix County commissioners. Ed Bures was president of the Wagner Chamber of Commerce, Karol Kocer, vice-president; Larry Jurgensen, treasurer. Clint Davenport underwent kidney transplant surgery in Omaha, NE.

45 Years Ago – 1979

Fred Soukup was president of the Wagner Saddle Club. Rev. Clark Gies was president of the Wagner Rotary Club. Joe Ober purchased the snow mobile inventory and dealership from Si Meirose. A daughter Lacie, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Glen Peterson.

60 Years Ago – 1964

Jay Hennies, a junior at the University of South Dakota was a member of the coyote basketball team. Dick Morgen, a M.I.T. student in Boston, spent the holidays home with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Herman Morgen. Dante Belle 4-H club met at the Eugene Homolka home.

70 Years Ago – 1954

The movie, “Titanic” was showing at the Elbs Theatre. Doug Eggers graduate of South Dakota State College joined the Baltimore Colts. Doug was signed on after he was discharged from the military service. The 1953 vital statistics of Charles-Mix County showed 44 births, 100 deaths, 88 marriages and 21 divorces.

92 Years Ago – 1932

Henry Helgerson succeeded Leland Hennies as manager of the OK Oil Station owned and operated by Brownell Corporation. Victor Whittier had the highest average, 95 ½ in the third six weeks at the Wagner School. A group of friends surprised Frank Honomichl on his 29th birthday.
