1991 - 30 YEARS AGO
The 28th Military Ball has eight competing for the queen title, they are: Joy Ehlers, Janelle Kocer, Betsy Schuldt, Laura Sterling, Janelle Twitero, Mary Wolf, Cindy Wranek and Cathy Zacharias.
The Dante Firemen held their annual benefit January 13 with 111 tickets sold. Leon and Norma Martin were the winners of the $500 first place prize and Wilbur and Janis Nedved won the $200 second place prize.
The Cub Scouts held their Pinewood Derby at WAgner Armory.
New enlistements in the 854th Engineer Company and 137th Engineer Battalion were: Chad Reiman of Armour, Richard Sully of Wagner, Zachary Diede of Dante, Rodney Miller of Corsica, Jaclyn Cihak of Dante, Nicole Rice of Winner and Clayton Ashes of Lake Andes.
1984 - 37 YEARS AGO
Julie Harmacek and Jim Bridge announced their engagement. An April wedding was planned.
Jerry and Sandy Seiner announced the birth of a son, Scott Edward, born January 18 weighing eight pounds seven ounces.
The WHS Honor Roll was published. Seniors qualifying for the honor roll for the 1st semester were: Patty Hubbard, Doris Nedved, Lisa Sip, Steve Soukup, Joan Stastny, Susan Staudenmier, Laurie Wiltz and Stephanie Woods.
Former pro-football player, Ron Smith, spoke to students in grades 6-12. Smith played for the San Diego Chargers, Chicago Bears and the Los Angeles Rams.
Cynthia Crisman was chosen as the queen of the 21st annual Military Ball in Wagner.
1974 - 47 YEARS AGO
An explosion rocked the McKee Transfer Building at the corner of Main and First Street, leaving it badly damaged. It was reported that propane gas escaped from a 30 lb. canister and was the cause.
Mary Minahan and Thomas Terpening announced their engagement. No wedding date has been set.
Mark Beeson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Beeson was the first baby of the year born at Wagner Community Hospital. The boy was born January 14 and weighed eight pounds nine ounces.
1964 - 57 YEARS AGO
Final plans were made for the dedication of the armory-auditorium in Wagner. The ceremony was held February 1st.
Twins were born to Dr. and Mrs. Gene Dressler on January 23. The girl weighed five pounds two ounces and was named Michelle Gene and the boy, Michael Gene, weighed four pounds one ounce.
