The 37th Annual Military Ball will be held February 3. Eleven candidates are running for the crown, they are: Miranda Hill, Samantha Ledeboer, Kimberly Leibel, Heidi Odens, Danella Pfeffer, Jennifer Roth, Danelle Svatos, Wendy Uherka, Stacy Vesely, Angie Will and Jenny Wright.
Services were held for Charles H. Edwards.
Jamin Bridge won first place in his age division in the SD Elks Hoop Shoot contest.
Mary Jo Nedved, Stephanie Nedved and Kimberly Miller travel to Waiwan on Exchange.
Angus exhibitors from all regions of the US parade 371 entries during the 2001 National Angus Show and National Western Stock Show Super Point Roll of Victory Show in Denver, CO. Among the 93 bulls shown in the competition was Koupals B&B Rainmaker 3020. The bull was named Reserve Junior Champion Bull.

Jody Zephier, a sophomore at Flandreau Indian School is a member of the Flandreau Indian School varsity wrestling team. He is the son of Dennis Greger and Ethelyn Zephier of Wagner.
Winners of the Dante Fireman’s annual benefit were Leon and Norma Martin, $500 and Wilbur and Janis Nedved won the $200.
First place winners in the Wagner Junior High Invitational Wrestling Tournament were: John Ehrisman, Jason Weber, Danny Swatek, Jason Wiechmann and Jeremy Robertson.
A daughter was born to Mark and Kim Soukup.

Sgt. Todd Z. Zephier of Wagner was one of three servicemen who died in a Pershing 2 missile fire at a US airbase near Heilbroun, West Germany.
It was announced that ten young women would vie for the title of Military Ball Queen at the 22nd Annual Military Ball to be held February 2 in Wagner.

Gail Johnson was named East Charles Mix Betty Crocker Family Leader of Tomorrow.

Dale Kafka and Gayle Slaba were crowned Prince and Princess of the annual FHA/FFA Snowball Dance.
Larry Archambeau won the South Dakota State Singles Bowling championship.
The Wagner Post Office was scheduled to open at its new location on the corner of East SE and Second Street on February 1st.

Harold Schunk, Superintendent of the Rosebud Indian Reservation and President of the South Dakota Historical Society, was the featured speaker at the annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Owen Wipf on January 24. The little girl weighed seven pounds 11 ounces.
Carol Uecker and Thomas F. Blaha announced their engagement. A February wedding is planned.
