The Andes State Bank had a "Spooky" Halloween open house. Andes Central Students attend the agriculture and power sports camp at Mitchell Technical Institute. Kelsey Kniffen won the vampire anti-prom fashion design contest sponsored by the Andes Central High school library.
20 Years Ago - 1999
The Andes State Bank held a Halloween Open House. The work on the new roof for the Andes Central High School continued. Depending on the weather it was predicted to be finished by Mid-November. Deb Bigge of Lake Andes was recognized for her outstanding service to 4-H by South Dakota Association of 4-H Educators.

A federal court judge ordered the suspension of rail service on all Milwaukee Railroad lines in South Dakota, except for the coal line to Big Stone power plant.
50 Years Ago - 1969
The senior class was to present a three-act comedy called "Hillbilly Weddin" on Nov. 14. "GonewiththeWind"wasshowing at Mix Theatre.
60 Years Ago - 1959
Senator Karl Mundt addressed high school students in both Wagner and Lake Andes. He was doing a "person-to-person" tour of the state and hoped to get to every county by Thanksgiving. Shirley Soulek and Donna Nelson were members of Southern State Teachers College choir, and Shirley Soulek and Pat McCabe were members of the marching band. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Don Hotchkiss.
70 Years Ago - 1949
Materials for sixty-six 3,350-bushel round bins were on a site one mile west of Lake Andes. Farmers who sealed their corn could now bring it there for storage. L.G. Holzbauer of Wagner was in charge of the project. Signe Kruger and Josh Burkhart opened a gift shop in the Sorenson building. Petitions were being circulated to rebuild the original chapel at Fort Randall and dedicate it as a National Monument.
80 Years Ago - 1939
Editor G.F. Kane of Lake Andes Wave and his wife attended the annual meeting of the Tri-State Editorial Association in Sioux City. Sheriff Jurczewsky and Marshal Carda called about 20 Halloween pranksters and made them replace outhouses, big timbers and other property.
90 Years Ago - 1929
J.W. Pesicka threshed 12 acres of oats that yielded 10 bushels to the acre. "Dacotah" a motion picture of the history of South Dakota, was shown in Lake Andes. The movie was on seven reels of film.
