Lake Andes Firemen win at Wagner's 109th Labor Day Water fight. Danielle Walder was awarded the Valedictorian Scholarship and the Yellow and Blue Scholarship for the 2009-2010 school year at South Dakota State University. We were given advice on how to stop the newest flu virus going around. H1N1.

Thomas Curran is the new operations manager at Ft. Randall Dam. Lake Andes City Council heard the information that John Otte and Kevin Tronvold brought about the progress at the municipal airport.

40 Years Ago - 1979

Jim Penning was the new chef at Golden Eagle Steak House and Lounge, and Marlyn Schryvers was the new manager. The Wagner Post newspaper office was badly damaged in a fire caused by lightning. David Dwight was born to Betty and Douglas Matzke, and Drew Alen was born to Mr. and Mrs. Steve Barns. Local grandparents, respectively, were the Red Allens and Lyle Laberees.

50 Years Ago - 1969

Geri Murray and Keith Brooks were homecoming royalty. M. Dale Anderson of Pickstown was elected Grand Commander of Grand Commander of Knights Templar of South Dakota.

60 Years Ago - 1959

Shirley Soulek was a candidate for Corn Palace queen. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Maruska.

70 Years Ago - 1949

Daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Swanger and Mr. and Mrs. John Mills. Johnny Faughender, a foreman in the Wave office, resigned his position.

80 Years Ago - 1939

Jack Branch became the owner of the filling station on Highway 18 at the end of 3rd Avenue. He called it Jack's South Side Filling Station. Mr. and Mrs. John Kozak took over the culinary department of Hotel Geddes. The Morgan farm southwest of town had tomatoes for sale for 75ยข per bushel.

90 Years Ago - 1929

Lake Andes was growing. Some of the expansions were the Floete Lumber yards, Lake Andes Motor and Securities filling station, Engel Hotel, Assmus-Chevrolet Garage and Paul Kasulka's harness shop. A new artesian well at the new fish hatchery at Rest Havel began flowing at the rate of 500 gallons per minute.
