TrumanAsheswasnamed Champion in the 285 pound weight class at the State Wrestling Tournament.

Joel Eggers, son of Jim and Peggy Eggers of Wagner, and Michelle Zeitter announced their engagement.

Wagner students Emily Robertson (Grade 5), Ayva Zephier (Grade 5), Cheyenna Davis (Grade 4), and Malcom Janis (Grade 7) attended the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee in Mitchell. Janis won the Regional Bee, advancing to the State Bee at USD.

Melody Otte was the winner of the Wagner American Legion Greer Post No. 11 27th Annual Sweepstakes, receiving the grand prize of $5,000.

2006

Ryan Kocer and Joey Koupal both brought home first place honors from the State Wrestling Tournament held in Sioux Falls.

Crystal Leibel, daughter of Timothy and Beverly Leibl of Wagner, announced her engagement to Jared Horn.

Lake Andes-Wagner Water Systems received a $5,500 grant at the South Central Water Development District Board of Directors meeting.

Leona Bergin was named Wagner Good Samaritan Employee of the Year.

Burnell Sip was elected President of AARP, Joe Uherka was voted in as Vice President, and Vlasta Blazek became Treasurer.

Reid and Norene Sutton of Lake Andes were proud parents of Makola Lee born on Leap Day.

1981

Bonnie Kisely, an eighth grade student at Wagner, represented her class in the annual Argus Leader Spelling Contest.

Kenny Kafka joined the 845th Guard Unit in Wagner.

60 YEARS AGO

1966

An open house was held at Kocer Implement Co. at their new location on East Highway 50.

Edward Jaeger, Wagner School Superintendent resigned the position he had held for the past three years; he remained until the current school term ended.

The Wagner Raiders won the District 27 Championship over the Platte Panthers with a score of 69-65.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Myers.

70 YEARS AGO

1956

Specials at O’Shea’s Market were Picnic Hams, 25¢/ lb; oxtails, 19¢/lb; spare ribs, 29¢/lb; pork cutlets, 39¢/lb.

Noel Troxell was elected Fire Chief, Glenn DeNoma was elected Assistant Fire Chief, and George Smith was elected Secretary/Treasurer.

A farewell party was held for Mr. and Mrs. Thos Lyons who were moving to Letcher.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haar.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Kennedy.

92 YEARS AGO

1934

Mutton was distributed to the Indians on the reservation and was greatly appreciated.

Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Hensel and family moved to the farm formerly occupied by Mrs. Nellie Horner and sons. The Hensel family had been residing on the Babcock farm near the river bottom.
