30 YEARS AGO

Several area students received degrees at the University of South Dakota's 20th winter commencement exercises held Saturday, December 16 in Slagle Auditorium, Vermillion. Students from Wagner were Angela C./ Carda, Master of Science; Judith Ann Cihak, Bachelor of Science in Education; and Krista Kay Gies Erickson, Master of Science. Michael B. Redlightning, Marty also received a Master of Science degree.

Mike and Tammy Swanson announced the birth of their son Aaron Michael, born November 13 in Yankton. He joins brother Jared, 4, and sister Megan, 2.

A Japanese Mortar Round that was donated to be displayed in the Charles Mix County Courthouse, was found to be live, and was detonated at the Wagner City Dump on December 15. Anyone with war memorabilia that could be dangerous was encouraged to contact law enforcement.

Second Class Petty Officer John W. Sully US Navy, has earned a certificate of Merit Bronze Award for excellence in copying Morse Code.

Nominated to the US Military Academy, West Point, NY and the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD were Wendy Fauth, Delmont, and Rob Rysavy II, Sioux Falls.

Arnold Horner was named Jaycee Outstanding Young Farmer and will compete in the state contest.

A three year old Brown Swiss cow consigned by Frank M. Slama sold for $1400 during the registered Brown Swiss Imperial Sale held at Golden, CO.

Mr. and Mrs. Levi Nedved celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.

Marvin Cihak has been listed as one of the 1960 Pointer football squad letter winners at Southern State.

Stanley Swatek of Francis Cheyenne, WY, is spending his vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Swatek.
