10 YEARS AGO

2015

The Labor Day committee planted a tree in honor of the 2015 Labor Day Parade Marshals, Bonnie and Ray Soukup.

Thirty-two motorcycles representing the American Legion Riders, congregated together on Labor Day weekend to honor 2015’s parade theme of “Honoring Our Heroes”.

The Prayers For Paul 5k Run and Walk was held. The winning runners were: First place went to Craig Hibbs at 25:21, second place was Marla Hewitt at 25:52, third place was Leah Insko at 26:10. In the 5k walk winners were: First place went to Nikki Kafka with 38:40, second place was Barb Johannsen with 40:56, and third place was CJ McNinch and Kelsey DeBey at 48:15.

The Commercial State Bank served a supper of grilled hamburgers and brats to the Wagner Red Raider Football Team to wish them good luck in their upcoming games.

30 YEARS AGO

1995

Kathryn Fleming was crowned the 2005 Labor Day Queen. Brittany Holzbauer was named First Runner Up and Danyel Alderink was Second Runner Up.

Cheering for the Red Raider football team in 2005 was: Samantha Dvorak, Rachel Pravacek, Amber Wilson, Nakita Poghradky, Precious Sully and Brittany Holzbauer.

Eugene and Esther Kisch celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an Open House.

45 YEARS AGO

1980

The VFW received a face lift with a striking new paint job. Wagner Community Hospital added a new service, Orthoscopic Surgery. Chuck Kocer was the first orthoscopic patient.

50 YEARS AGO

1975

A loss of $1200 to $1500 in merchandise was incurred by Weinstein’s Clothing Store when thieves looted the shop.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Schuldt. James Mullen and Irene Beeson exchanged vows.

70 YEARS AGO

1955

The W.N.A.X Bohemian Band played at Bass Beach.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Merkwan. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Hollmann. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Eggers attended a football game in Minneapolis where their son, Douglas played with the Baltimore Colts.

92 YEARS AGO

1933

Bernice Kerwin and Edwards Fitzsimmons exchanged vows.

Fives buses of Indian children arrived from North Dakota to attend school at Marty Mission.

A large crown attended the Labor Day celebration in Wagner. Some of the highlights were the Indian War Dance and the ball game with Tyndall where Wagner won 5-2. The boxing match was promoted and refereed by Albert Vogel. The first bout was between Tuffy Yungbluth and Donnie Vogel and the second between Verlin Morgen and Chuck Connolly.
