Alco was set to close after the company filed bankruptcy.

Travis and Kaitlin Retzlaff announced the birth of their son, Beckett Neil Retzlaff.

Wagner American Legion Auxiliary membership awards were presented to Barbara Wiechmann for 35 years, Barbara Kucera for 15 years, and Margie Stone for 20 Years.

City employees Mike Kazena, Larry Blaha, and Russell Brown were busy decorating Wagner for the upcoming holiday season.

Jacob Kvigne, Andrew Soukup, and Karlee Schroeder were named to the 2014 Academic All-State team for football and volleyball.

20 Years Ago – 2004

Father Richard Baumberger and Sandy Seiner, one of the St. John’s Catholic Church Youth Group Directors, accepted a check from Butch Byers, a Catholic Aid Representative as a matching donation for the Youth Group.

Membership awards were presented to American Legion members: Robert Clemens 25 years; Curtis Kaberna 15 years; Merrill Dewald 5 years; Robert Soukup 5 years; Paul Wiechmann 10 years; Don Barta 35 years; Robert Wiechmann 15 years; Roy Crisman Jr. 60 Years; Noel Troxell 60 years; James T. Anderson 50 years; and Arnold Horner 10 years.

Membership awards were presented to the Legion Auxiliary members: Cynthia Davenport 10 years; Marlene Stone 20 years; and Mayme Crisman 50 years.

30 Years Ago – 1994

The Wagner Community Club donated three beepers to the Wagner Ambulance.

Six inches of snow fell in the Wagner area.

45 Years Ago – 1979

Lawrence Stahlecker presented certificates of recognition to Anna Krcil and Helen Cihak for their many years of service to the Wagner Good Samaritan Center.

A son was born to Junior and Debbie (Kocer) Buck.

60 Years Ago – 1964

Mr. and Mrs. Merrill De-Wald moved to their new home west of Wagner.

Mary Lea Honke made the Dean’s list for the first quarter at Suchesne College.

Bernita Smith and Roger Tjaden announced their engagement.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Vit Krcil, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Powers, and a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. David Bucholz.

70 Years Ago – 1954

Kathleen Soulek and Darrel Dvorak announced their engagement.

College students that were home for vacation were Jo Ann Broz, Clarice Rohla of Vermillion; Darlene Kapfenstein and Irene Honomichl of Springfield.

Mr. and Mrs. Anton Cihak celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Soukup.

82 Years Ago – 1932

Paul Carda and Fay Dunsmore exchanged vows.

Marguerite Hoyer was crowned Carnival Queen at the Wagner High School’s annual carnival.

One of the evenings features were boxing matches, all of which were called a draw in the final rounds. Leslie Grim took on Francis Maag, next Gale Sears and Arthur Fincke gave the spectators a nice treat while Wesley Hare and Harold Hensel concluded the features.
