10 Years Ago – 2014

The first snowfall of the year came about and allowed the youth of Wagner some fun playing in the snow.

Wagner was awarded a Community Development Block Grant by Governor Daugaard.

Carol Kniffen won the Wagner Community Hospital-Avera Auxiliary raffle quilt.

Dan Koupal and Mitch Breen opened Lone Tree Land and Auction.

A card shower was requested for Louis and Ann Otte’s 60th wedding anniversary.

Veteran’s Day program essay winners were Olivia Breen, Jessica Kocer, Paige Anderson, Kaija Hare, MacKenzie Roberts, and Michelle Soukup.

Wagner Community School held their annual Veterans Day Program honoring all those that have served.

The reader photo of the week with the topic of pets was taken by Mary Ann Deurmier of her cat named Snickers.

20 Years Ago – 2004

Marlene Stone was the winner of the Wagner Hospital Auxiliary Quilt Raffle.

Wagner native Heidi Howard was named “Young Professional Teacher of the Year 2004” for the state of Colorado at the annual Colorado Association of Health.

Bryan Joseph was the American Education Week Art Contest winner.

Janelle Kuhlman, Kristi Soukup, and Krystal Cihak were named All-Conference Volleyball and Kara Schroeder and CJ Krcil were named Honorable Mention.

Nathan Kafka, Jon Doom, Tyson Johannsen, Derek Koupal, Matt Hill, Jared Carda, and Bubba Carda were named to the 2004 SESD All- Conference team and Ryan Krcil and Michael Hill were named Honorable Mention.

30 Years Ago – 1994 Irene Krcil was the Wagner Good Samaritan Employee of the Month.

Ribbon cutting ceremonies and open house were held at Bryndy’s Steakhouse and Lounge.

Angie Peters, a junior at Wagner Community School, was named to the LMVC All Conference team.

Louis and Ann Otte celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

45 Years Ago – 1979

Don Juffer, president of Commercial State Bank, was elected to the Board of Directors of the SD Chamber of Commerce in Pierre.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Smejkal.

60 Years Ago – 1964

The VFW Post 7319 held a Mortgage Burning Ceremony.

The Wagner Post installed a different press some forty years younger than the present one.

Phil Masur received the Ree District Scouting Award.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Doty.

70 Years Ago – 1954

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Harris of Delmont.

Johnson and Ernst trucked and did corn shelling. Cost of corn selling was 1 ½ ¢ a bushel for 100 bushel or more.

92 Years Ago – 1932

The men of the Methodist Church had about completed the sawing and hauling of wood for use during the winter months in the church and parsonage. Fourteen truckloads were secured from the Frank Schroeder place.

The Wagner City Council appointed Gerald Halstead to the office of City Auditor to succeed E.J. Petrik who resigned upon taking his duties with the Agriculture Credit Corporation at Sioux City. B.V. Morgen was made treasurer to succeed Mr. Petrik.

Tilly Zolnowsky and Martin Honnor exchanged vows.

Olivia Kuca and Annus Buss exchanged vows.
