10 Years Ago - 2009

Wade Zephier and Laken Nedved announced the birth of Braxton Maxine Zephier. Construction on the Yankton Sioux Tribe Community Center in Lake Andes was getting concrete for sidewalks and a parking lot. Bids for construction at the Andes Central School were being taken. Riley Svatos was awarded the Patricia Price Memorial Scholarship. A few marriages were announced in the paper including: Justin Bouza married Ruth Pettit and Joshua Kaczor married Rachel Bergin on June 20th, 2009.

20 Years Ago - 1999

Lake Andes Pool was in full swing. With many using the diving board and mother's helping their children enjoy the pool. Family members of Almon Adam took off on seven canoes from Pickstown. Some of the family members who partook in the canoing adventure included Doug, Curtis and Carrie Brooks, Yankton; Dan, Ryan, Rachael, and Reece Evans, Centerville; Daniel, Jessi andJacobThaler,Pickstown; Greg, Ruth, John, Jeremy, Joe and Jenna Reiser, Parkston; and Angie Barrick, Armour. An Annual School Reunion was held with the class of 1949 celebrating their 50th.

50 Years Ago - 1969

Jack Welch and Randy Vesely landed a pike in Svatos Bay that weighed over 20 pounds. Lt. Lynn Nelsen and his four man crew landed their 22,000 pound navy helicopter in Lake Andes making the first time a helicopter had landed at the local airport

60 Years Ago - 1959

Leonard's Sporting Goods store opened for business one block south on South Main. The Back to God Chapel opened on the east part of Lake Andes.

80 Years Ago - 1939

The total acres of land in Charles Mix County was 719,876. The total cost of operating the public school for the 1937-1938 year was $15,555. Alfred Kasluka's Store had binder twine for $6.50 per 100 lbs.
