Emily Brunsing was crowned 2014 Labor Day Queen. Sadie Eitemiller received first runner up and Kristan Soukup received second runner up.

Kristi Kokesh and Heath Gumb announced their engagement.

Colby and Halie Kirwan announced the birth of their daughter, Jordyn Eleanora.

A card shower was requested for Martha Kreeger’s 100th birthday.

A tree was planted in honor of Parade Marshals Keith and Mardell Schroeder.

The theme of the Labor Day was “Celebrating South Dakota’s 125th Birthday.'

20 Years Ago – 2004

Sixteen young ladies vied for the title of Labor Day Queen. Contestants included Danyel Alderink, Megan Avant, Savanah Breen, Stephanie Carda, Krystal Cihak, Michelle Cuka, Crystal Dvoracek, Kristi Donelan, Christa Hahn, Laura Harrington, Amanda Horner, Robin Kisely, Cassandra Krcil, Dana Permann, Carmen Soulek, and Brittany Young.

An open house was to be held in honor of Norman and Joan Wood’s 50th wedding anniversary.

The Wagner Police Department and City Finance Office held an open house in their new location on Main Street.

Brian and Kerry Cuka were united in marriage.

Steven and Jill Westendorf were united in marriage.

30 Years Ago – 1994

Paula Woods and Rick Brandner announced their engagement.

Reverend Vern Donnell retired from federal service to fulfill a long time calling and commitment to the ministry. He became the Pastor of the Wagner Assembly of God Church on a full-time basis.

A daughter, Miranda Jo, was born to John and Tracy Crisman.

Rookies Dining and Sports Bar was open for business.

45 Years Ago – 1979

Wagner’s 79th Labor Day Parade Marshal was Ed Honner.

Connie’s Cut and Curl relocated to 111 Main in the building that formerly housed the Highlander Laundry. Hairstylists were DeElla Bastemeyer, Juanita Wilson and Cheryl Smejkal.

Irene Giedd hosted a pot luck dinner; the occasion was the 25th wedding anniversary of Wayne and Elaine Schroeder.

60 Years Ago – 1964

Wagner Community School fall enrollment was 561 students in grades one through twelve.

Donald R. Juffer was among 411 men who graduated from School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Weber.

70 Years Ago – 1954

Reverend F.R. Bacon accepted the call as Pastor of the East Lake Andes Lutheran Church.

JoAnn Kadlec and Edward Verba exchanged vows.

A chicken dinner was served at the ZCBJ Hall on Labor Day starting at 11 a.m. A dance was held in the evening featuring Novak’s Orchestra.

Mildred Swatek was honored at a miscellaneous bridal shower.

92 Years Ago – 1932

A five-and-a-half-pound son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nugent.

Rose Stedronsky exchanged vows with John Bultena of Lennox.

The Reinhart threshing crew gathered at the Ad Yungbluth grove for a ball game and picnic.

An over ten-pound baby was born to Mr. & Mrs. Neil Neilsen.
